Energy & an Epilator

Don’t worry, you read that right. Energy and an epilator. They’re two of my favorite things right now, because they both my life 10x easier.

To start with the less exciting topic: energy. I have an obsession with Yogi tea. But, one of my favorite ones would have to be Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy. It has a lot of taste to it, it’s not too sweet, but is still sweet enough that I don’t need sweetener. In fact, I don’t use sweetener for any of the Yogi teas.

Positive Energy tea has completely replaced my morning coffee. I get just the right amount of a caffeine kick in the morning without getting jittery or having an energy crash. I highly suggest testing it out. I feel great and I look forward to the taste of my morning tea.

Onto the epilator… I’ve been trying out the Emjoi eRase e60 for a few weeks now and it’s safe to say – after some adjustment – I love it.

The e60 has 60 tweezers, and not only has two different speeds, but also comes with a little cover that allows you to only use a small section of the epilator for more sensitive areas (personally, I don’t use the cover often, if ever). I wont lie, the first time I used it, it was painful. My legs hurt, there were bumps.

But, I’ve had laser hair removal… and it didn’t take nearly as well as this epilator does. I hardly even have to shave my legs every 3 days – and that’s just because there were sections I was missing with the epilator, and didn’t have time to get. The epilator takes quite a bit of time the first few times, first to get used to the pain, but also because it has to get all the hair that first time.

The kit the e60 comes with is super easy to use, and isn’t too loud. If you have sensitive skin you’ll want to proceed with caution. However, I have fairly sensitive skin and other than some minor pain and redness the first few times, I haven’t noticed any issues. I have noticed a difference though. Usually, I have red bumps on my legs from razor burn that I have tried every method in the book (even laser) to avoid. Now they’re almost completely gone. To me, that makes a huge difference. As does the fact I can now sit and enjoy a bath and not have to shave my legs every day.

Have you tried Yogi or an epilator? Let me know about your experience!

HiSmile Review

HiSmileIf you logged into Instagram ever in 2016, chances are you saw this product called HiSmile being used by someone. It is an LED teeth whitening system that is free of peroxide bleaching agents which can be harmful to you, especially when done “DIY.”

Now, I have sensitive teeth. I’ve tried Crest teeth whitening strips before and seen a difference, and felt one too. No joke, it’s been painful for me to drink coffee or walk outside in the cold. That’s part of the reason HiSmile was attractive to me (also, the cute selfies – no shame). HiSmile’w website claims:

“We have carefully crafted a formula that uses 3 Primary Whitening Agents to ensure maximum results and assist in gently whitening all inner and outer tooth stains. Our gel was designed to optimize all of its whitening effects within only 10 minutes whilst maintain no damage to the tooth’s enamel.

Through our unique formulation we have also been able to ensure that no tooth erosion occurs and that the tooth’s enamel is not damaged in the process.”

I decided to give it a try. I got my Teeth Whitening Kit in the beginning of December and immediately tried it. Of course, like many others, I quickly fell in love with the packaging.

You can of course look up how to use it yourself, but the spark notes version is: attach the mouth guard to the light and put some of the gel on the mouth guard and then put it over your teeth and turn it on! The light turns off automatically in 10 minutes.

The taste is a little weird, and I found out the hard way having to breath through your nose for 10 minutes if you have a stuffy nose is not enjoyable.

Regardless, after the first nine applications, I noticed a difference. There’s a handy little card that you can hold up next to your teeth to check the difference. In seven days my teeth were two shades lighter. Now I do a “touch up” application every two weeks or so. Of course drinking less coffee helps too….

If your hesitant about the ingredients in the gels here’s a list: “Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Percarbonate, Polyvinylpyrrolidone, Glycerol, Propylene Glycerol, Deionized Water, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium, Menthol.”

After buying the Kit you can purchase refills. I’ve been sing only about a quarter of a syringe for each use, so after my original week of application I still have enough to last over a month!

At around $60, HiSmile is pretty much the same price as other teeth whiteners. And it works just about as well. But to me, the best part is NO SENSITIVITY. Of course, consulting your dentist before trying is always smart…I won’t tell you if I choose to do that or not….

Is the LED light necessary? Maybe. But, at least it makes a great timer!

surviving summer heat

i’m guilty of donning a full face of makeup at least half of the time. when it comes to surviving summer heat, i work my hardest to keep that face on. however, even with fairly clear skin naturally, i have to keep extra good care of my skin when there’s layers of sweat trapped on my face along with makeup.

it’s thanks to specific products that, most days, my makeup stays fresh and my face stays clear.

surviving summer heat

the first (and last!) step is to use my smashbox photo-finish primer water. spritz it on your face and enjoy the refreshing feel of water (bonus: keep it in the fridge!). the next step is to use some good bb cream. if i just want sun coverage, any drugstore brand is fine with me. however, if i want skin coverage and sun coverage, too faced tinted beauty balm is the way to go. when your makeup routine is done, spritz some more smashbox photo-finish primer water on to hold you makeup. this works if you need a makeup pick-me up in the middle of the day, as well. it keeps it in place all day.

but, when the day is over, it’s important to make sure your makeup is removed completely. that’s something i don’t like to do, especially eye makeup. then i got a sample of Lancôme bi-facil eye makeup remover and i was hooked (ugh, they got me). it is lightly scented, but it doesn’t mess with my sensitive skin.

finally, regardless of the time of day, water and some chapstick are something to have at the ready. the dior addict lip glow is amazing. it’s hydrating, and stays in place, which is perfect in and of itself. however, the color that comes from the lip glow is perfect, but subtle. it’s perfect for every day, no matter what you’re wearing. pair with anything, and everything.

weekend necessities

FullSizeRendera weekend away is something everything needs every once and a while. whether you’re leaving your regular resting grounds for fun or because you need to, it’s nice to get away. it’s hard to know exactly what to pack aside from clothes/makeup when you’re gone for just a short amount of time, so here are what i consider weekend necessities:

a small pill bag, sunglasses, a good movie and reading material.

no matter how long you’ll be gone, the two items at the top of this picture are a must. you never know what allergies will be in different areas of your country or even your town, so you should carry allergy medicine with you anywhere you go. if you get headaches or other muscle pains, carry your desired pain medication as well. you never know when you may need it. as for the sunglasses, even if it’s rainy, you may need sunglasses to protect your eyes from the stray rays of sun.

When it comes to the movie and the magazine/reading material? the reason for the movie, is because who knows when you’ll go somewhere that there isn’t netflix or maybe your favorite movie gets taken off (AND OH GOODNESS!!!! i pray it doesn’t). and the reading material is great because maybe your friend will be running late or the person you’re meeting with is behind on meetings. my current personal choice is the latest issue of Vogue because i just got it in my campus mailbox and i can’t wait to sit down and go through it.

regardless, before you leave your nesting place, make sure you pack medications, sunglasses, reading material and a movie. you won’t regret it!
